Laser Treatment of Spiderveins

Before and after spidervein treatmentInsightly veins plague patients of all ages - particularly women. Surgical stripping and sclerotherpy have been the mainstays of vein therapy for decades. Today, advances in laser technology, are offering new ways of relief for patients who want to rid themselves of spider veins.

Spider veins are enlarged blood vessels located near the surface of the skin. They are small. They tend to develop on the face around the nose, cheeks and chin. On the body they tend to develop on the upper thighs, below the knees and around the ankles.

Physicians have been using lasers to treat veins since 1970s, although they did not achieve acceptable results until in the 1980s

I use Nd: YAG type laser for spider vein treatment. The Nd: YAG type laser has maximum penetration depth of 3 mm, which makes it ideal to destroy large vessels in the mid-dermis. The scant absorption by melanin also decreases the potential for epidermal damage, even in darker skin types.

During my initial consultation, I would like to make sure that you understand what to expect at every step of treatment. This is the best way to ensure good results.

Vein treatment doesn't culminate in instant improvement and might take eight to 12 weeks to see optimal improvement. It can take up to three to five treatments to clear leg veins. Clearing finer facial veins generally requires only one to two sessions.

As with other laser therapies, patients who experience the best results with the laser vein therapies are those in the fairer skin type I through IV. Veins can be a stubborn problem, but they're treatable with the right equipment.
